Merchant Center accounts are used to store product information for Shopping campaigns. To provide product information for your account, you'll need to create and upload a product feed that contains all the pertinent information. Both the Merchant Center and the Content API let you upload a feed containing a set of products all at once. Additionally, the Content API allows you to upload and update products individually.
See the Manual Steps section for uploading a feed using the Merchant Center, and the Automatic Steps section on how to use the Content API to upload feeds and products.
If you already have product information in an eCommerce platform, you may be able to connect that eCommerce platform to the Merchant Center and have the information shared automatically. Check with your eCommerce platform provider to see if any connectors exist for sharing product information with the Merchant Center.
- See the Feeds overview and Supported file formats to plan how you will structure your feed upload.
- Follow the process in Register a feed to set up how your feed is uploaded, whether it is manually uploaded or fetched from a certain source every so often.
- Follow the steps in Upload a feed to get your new feed into Merchant Center. If you have not previously created a Merchant Center feed, you may go through several iterations to get the feed set up correctly. If you need help, see the Google Advertiser Community.
You can use the Content API for both bulk uploading product information via feed upload as well as sending product information on a per-product basis.
- To schedule feed uploads, see the Datafeeds resource representation. Using the various methods in the Datafeeds service, you can create, update, and delete registered feeds. Read through the Manual Steps section above for more detail about feed uploads. Note that the only type of feed that can be automated using the Datafeeds service are scheduled feeds.
To upload per-product information using the Content API, see the Products resource representation. This contains the fields described by the Product Feed Specification along with some other fields needed for per-product information upload. The majority of these fields are "optional", see the Product Feed Specification to determine which fields are required for your specific product.
To get the current status of products on your account, including whether or not they are approved for serving, use the Productstatuses service.
