Car-maker branding

Car makers who build Android Automotive OS (AAOS) into their vehicles can customize the UI to reflect their brand, as well as to accommodate the hardware configurations of specific car models.

If they are using Google templates for hosting third-party apps in their infotainment systems, car makers need to display app icons and accent colors in some situations, such as on content screens for media apps (for details, visit App branding). However, they have a lot of flexibility regarding how they customize these templates. They can make color and typography choices that reflect their own brand and their cars’ interiors, customize their layouts to reflect their car screens and cabin configurations, and more.

To make sure their customized UIs meet usability standards for cars, car makers should follow interaction-design and visual-design principles described in Design foundations, as well as the style approach described in Design system.
