Quickstart guide for Japan issuers

This page outlines the BIN Configuration process for Issuers using local schemes in Japan. These TPS that support local schemes are:

  • Thales (Gemalto) through DNP
  • JCB

Background

Payment instruments such as credit cards in Japan can be co-badged with a local scheme such as iD and QUICpay along with an international scheme such as Visa and Mastercard.

This means that the card issuer needs to decide the scheme before the launch of the product and need to configure it with Google.

BIN setting processes

If you are using either JCB or Thales, follow the process here.

Download the BIN form from the BIN configuration guide.

You will need to send the forms 4 times to the BIN support team.

1) Setting up the BINs in the Sandbox environment

2) Blocking the BINs in the Production environment

3) Setting up the BINs in the Production environment

4) Releasing the BINs in the Production environment

Send a request file to the Google BIN team

For each BIN configuration request, issuers need to send the corresponding files to Google in the correct naming format. The excel file can be downloaded from the BIN Configuration instructions page.

Send the completed file to support-google-bin@google.com and ensure that the request is clear in the email by including what request it is in the email contents.

Setting up the BINs in the Sandbox environment

To start testing in the Sandbox environment, set up the BINs with the right scheme in the Sandbox environment by completing and sending the file named as "JP_Set_Sandbox_Google_Pay_BIN_data.xlsx".

Blocking the BINs in the Production environment

Before testing in the Production environment, set up the BINs with the right scheme in the Production environment by sending the file named as "JP_Block_Prod_Google_Pay_BIN_data.xlsx".

This will block all users from using the BIN range and tokenizing a card before the product is ready.

Setting up the BINs in the Production environment

To start testing in the Production environment, set up the BINs with the right scheme in the Production environment by completing and sending the file named as "JP_Set_Prod_Google_Pay_BIN_data.xlsx".

Releasing the BINs in the Production environment

Releasing the BINs in the Production environment To start service in the Production environment, release the block on the BINs with the right scheme in the Production environment by sending the file named as "JP_Release_Prod_Google_Pay_BIN_data.xlsx".

Enable accounts for BIN Testing

To ensure your testers can use any blocked BIN range, send a request with a list of accounts from this form. This will add your users to our allowlist to use the blocked BINs in the Production environment.
