Tennessee SB2262 (2026): How small business owners can receive notifications from Google Search
Tennessee SB 2262 (2026) entitles certain small businesses in Tennessee to be notified if their digital listings or customer reviews are removed or restricted from online search engines. To make sure you receive these notifications from Google Search, be sure to do the following:
- Verify your website in Search Console
- Claim and manage other business listings on Google that may appear on Search
Verify your website in Search Console
Search Console sends messages to website owners when an important event occurs on their site. Once you verify your website in Search Console, you will receive notifications from Search Console automatically, including:
- Spam and policy violations: Get notified if your site is in violation of Google's spam policies and other policy violations.
- Legal removals: Get alerts if content was removed due to local legal requirements.
- Security issues: Get notified about malware or hacked content on your site.
Claim and manage other small business listings on Google Search
If your small business's website or customer reviews show up in Google Search in other ways (for example, on a Google Maps business profile listing or Google Shopping product listings), be sure to also claim or verify your business in the following tools to get notified if those services remove or restrict your business information:
- Add or claim your Google Business profile: Local storefronts can claim their business listing to receive direct updates about map restrictions or legal removals (such as mass restrictions on customer reviews or other policy violations).
- If you sell products online, get started with Merchant Center: Once you sign up with Merchant Center, you can get alerts if there's an issue with your product listings (such as removals due to policy violations).
