Accessing Arguments in UI Events

  • This example demonstrates how to create a clickable map that places a marker at the clicked location.

  • When a user clicks on the map, a marker is added and the map view is centered on that point.

  • It utilizes the Google Maps JavaScript API's event listeners to handle user interactions.

  • The sample code is provided in both TypeScript and JavaScript for flexibility.

  • The HTML, CSS and Javascript code are provided to facilitate implementing this feature on a webpage.

This example creates a map that the user can click to create a marker at the clicked point.

TypeScript

async function initMap() {
    // Request needed libraries.
    const [, { AdvancedMarkerElement }] = await Promise.all([
        google.maps.importLibrary('maps'),
        google.maps.importLibrary('marker'),
    ]);

    const mapElement = document.querySelector('gmp-map')!;
    const innerMap = mapElement.innerMap;

    innerMap.addListener('click', (e) => {
        new AdvancedMarkerElement({
            position: e.latLng,
            map: innerMap,
        });
        innerMap.panTo(e.latLng);
    });
}

void initMap();

JavaScript

async function initMap() {
    // Request needed libraries.
    const [, { AdvancedMarkerElement }] = await Promise.all([
        google.maps.importLibrary('maps'),
        google.maps.importLibrary('marker'),
    ]);

    const mapElement = document.querySelector('gmp-map');
    const innerMap = mapElement.innerMap;

    innerMap.addListener('click', (e) => {
        new AdvancedMarkerElement({
            position: e.latLng,
            map: innerMap,
        });
        innerMap.panTo(e.latLng);
    });
}

void initMap();

CSS
