Jurisdictions

This document describes Google policy and process around jurisdictions. A jurisdiction is a series of one or more disjoint polygons that defines the region you manage.

In order to prevent unauthorized access to traffic information, Google ensure that you can create and track routes only within your jurisdiction.

Define and manage your jurisdiction

During your onboarding process, a representative from Google will reach out to you for your jurisdiction details. Be prepared to share either of the following at that time:

  • A GeoJSON file. If you manage regions that are not joined in a well-defined geo-political territory, you can provide those regions in a GeoJSON file. This file must contain separate polygons for each disjoint region you manage and for which you want to track routes.

  • The names of the regions you manage. If the territory you manage is a well-defined geo-political region, you can share the names of the region you manage and we can retrieve the boundaries from our internal maps.

After that, the process is as follows:

  1. Provide jurisdiction details. The Google representative validates the jurisdiction information to ensure that the jurisdiction boundaries you provide match the region you manage.
  2. Validation. Once approved, Google uploads the jurisdiction into our system.
  3. Jurisdiction upload. The representative confirms the upload.
  4. Create selected routes. You can start creating selected-routes under given jurisdiction.

Modifications: If you request modifications after the validation process, you'll work with your representative to address them.
