Page Summary
-
This tool uses the Google Maps Places API to locate a place based on its address.
-
It then places a marker on the map at the located place's coordinates.
-
An info window is displayed, containing the place's ID, name, and formatted address.
-
Sample code is provided in both JavaScript and TypeScript, demonstrating the functionality.
The Place ID Finder sample allows a user to find a place based on its address, then it adds a marker for the place to the map, and displays the place's place ID in an info window.
Read the documentation.

Git and Node.js are required to run this sample locally. Follow these instructions to install Node.js and NPM. You will also need a Google Maps API key.
The following commands clone the repository, install dependencies, and copy the environment file.
git clone https://github.com/googlemaps-samples/js-api-samples.gitcd js-api-samplesnpm icp .env.template .env
Once you copy the environment file, make sure to open the .env file and replace <Insert your own development API key here> with your actual API key before starting the sample.
cd samples/places-placeid-findernpm start
