Get the Address for a Place ID

  • This example demonstrates how to use the Google Maps JavaScript API's geocoding service to retrieve an address for a given Place ID.

  • It utilizes the Geocoder object to perform the geocoding request, providing the Place ID as input.

  • Upon successful geocoding, the example updates the map's center and zoom level, adds a marker at the retrieved location, and displays the formatted address in an info window.

  • The example is provided in both TypeScript and JavaScript, showcasing how to implement the functionality in either language.

  • Users can try the sample using JSFiddle or Google Cloud Shell, and can also clone and run it locally with Git and Node.js.

This example uses geocoding to retrieve an address for a given place ID.

Clone Sample

Git and Node.js are required to run this sample locally. Follow these instructions to install Node.js and NPM. You will also need a Google Maps API key.

The following commands clone the repository, install dependencies, and copy the environment file.

  git clone https://github.com/googlemaps-samples/js-api-samples.git
  cd js-api-samples
  npm i
  cp .env.template .env

Once you copy the environment file, make sure to open the .env file and replace <Insert your own development API key here> with your actual API key before starting the sample.

  cd samples/geocoding-place-id
  npm start
