Update on YouTube for AOSP devices

October 23, 2025

To Our OEM Partners:

This notice is to inform you about an upcoming change regarding access to YouTube on uncertified Android Open Source Project (AOSP) devices. To ensure a high-quality, consistent, and secure experience for our users, YouTube is only available on certified devices. We recently noticed that YouTube was available on some uncertified AOSP devices, and we will soon begin to block access to YouTube on these devices. This decision is based on a number of factors, including the poor user experience, the potential security risks on these devices, and the fact that these devices don't meet the technical requirements for using YouTube. Go here to learn more about the agreement required to carry the YouTube application and go here to learn more about our certification requirements.

To ensure that your devices have access to YouTube, we recommend transitioning to pre-certified reference designs. Certified AOSP chipsets and platforms are available from our scaling partners, and are designed to meet YouTube's technical requirements and provide a stable and secure platform.

Below is a non-exhaustive list (last updated Sept 30, 2025) of scaling partners with certified AOSP chipsets / reference platforms:
