Congratulations on your Google Developer Program premium subscription!
To start using Gemini Code Assist, you first need to activate your license by linking it to a Google Cloud project. Follow the instructions for your preferred environment below.
Method 1: Activate from an IDE
This is the most direct way to get started.
Install the Gemini Code Assist plugin in your preferred IDE (e.g., VS Code, Android Studio). If you don't have it, you can download the latest version from codeassist.google.
Sign in using the Gemini Code Assist interface within your IDE.
Be sure to use the same Google account associated with your Google Developer Program premium subscription.
Select or create a Google Cloud project when prompted by the plugin.
Once you select a project, Gemini Code Assist will be active and ready to use in your IDE.
Note: A Google Cloud project is required to manage the service, but you do not need to enable billing. Your Google Developer Program premium subscription covers the cost.
Method 2: Activate from the Web or CLI
Use this method if you primarily work in web-based tools that use Gemini Code Assist like Firebase Studio or the command-line for such as Gemini CLI.
Select or create a Google Cloud project. Go to the Google Cloud Console to choose an existing project or create a new one.
Enable the API. In your selected project's dashboard, navigate to the API library and enable the Gemini for Google Cloud API.
Sign in to your tool. Open your service (e.g., Firebase Studio) or terminal and sign in with the same Google Account that holds your premium subscription.
Gemini Code Assist will now be enabled in all connected Google Cloud services.
