Navigation Connect Usage and Billing

How the Navigation Connect API is billed

The Navigation Connect API uses a usage-based billing model. You are billed per trip the moment Navigation Connect receives the first trip payload from Google Maps or Waze. This typically occurs right after the driver provides consent. If the driver provided consent previously, then it occurs as navigation starts. Each trip is billed at most once.

Billing is triggered regardless of whether you choose to download or retrieve data.

If you use Google Cloud Pub/Sub for event generation, Pub/Sub charges apply separately. For more information, see Pub/Sub pricing.

SKU details and pricing for the Navigation Connect API

The SKU used to determine the cost of a Navigation Connect request is based on the features enabled in the TripConfig object. To help prevent unexpected charges, the system defaults to the Pro tier (the lowest cost tier).

How SKUs are triggered

  • Navigation Connect Pro: Billed for requests that use standard functionality and the default TripConfig settings.
  • Navigation Connect Enterprise: Billed for requests that use advanced features in the TripConfig object. Any of the following settings triggers the Enterprise SKU:
    • High-frequency location updates every 5 seconds (enableHighFrequencyUpdates)
    • Remaining route and traffic reporting (enableRemainingRouteReporting)
    • Route deviation reporting (enableRouteDeviationReporting)

Service usage is calculated on a monthly basis. The following tables show the expected price per 1,000 billing events after the product reaches GA.

  • CreateTrip: 600 requests per minute
  • GetTrip: 7,200 requests per minute

Adjust quota

Quota limits define the maximum number of requests allowed for a specific API or service within a given timeframe. When the number of requests in your project reaches the quota limit, your service stops responding to requests.

To modify a quota value for your API, follow these steps:

  1. In the Cloud console, navigate to Google Maps Platform > Quotas.
  2. Select the API for which you want to modify the quota.
  3. Identify the quota value that you want to change, and select it using the checkbox.
  4. Click Edit, enter a new quota value, and click Submit request.

View quota increase requests

To view all quota increase requests, including past and pending requests:

  1. In the Cloud console, navigate to Google Maps Platform > Quotas.
  2. Select the API for which you want to view the quota increase request.
  3. Click Increase Requests.
