1. Eligibility
1.1 This program is part of the Google Maps Platform Public Programs. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for Nonprofits, Crisis response organizations, News media organizations or Faculty at educational organizations.
1.1.1 Programs for Startup organizations, Transit agencies and Google Maps Platform Innovators are not eligible for Google Earth credits at this time.
1.2 Google Earth credits are intended for applicants whose project relates to climate change mitigation, adaptation, protection or public health and can demonstrate clear evidence of high-impact sustainability or public health work that influences social and environmental policy and practices (see section 4.2 for details on how to demonstrate clear evidence).
1.2.1 The following definitions apply to this Section 1.2:
- "Climate change mitigation" refers to carbon emissions reduction, as calculated by the tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) reduced or removed annually.
- "Adaptation" refers to climate change resilience, as calculated by the number of people helped to adapt to negative impacts of climate change (e.g. wildfire, extreme heat, flooding, other natural disasters, etc.).
- "Protection" refers to nature and biodiversity protection, management, and restoration, as calculated by the number of hectares of new protected areas established and/or the number of hectares of existing areas effectively monitored and managed.
- "Public health" refers to the ensuring and improving of the conditions in which people can be healthy, including physical, mental and social well-being, and the absence of disease or infirmity, as calculated by the number of people impacted.
2. Credit Usage
2.1 Organizations must maintain a valid Google Cloud billing account.
2.2 Credits may only be applied to one seat and one Google Cloud billing account for a single organization at one time.
2.3 Credits may only be used for a Google Earth Professional or Professional Advanced plan.
2.3.1 Credits are non-transferable and intended solely for the approved project and recipient.
3. Duration and Renewal
3.1 Credits are valid for 12 months from the date of issuance.
3.2 Recipients will be notified 30 days prior to credit expiration and may request renewal by taking the actions described in 4.2. Renewals are issued at the full discretion of Google and are contingent upon reporting impact metrics (as defined in section 4.2).
4. Compliance, Attribution and Reporting
4.1 Google reserves the right to audit credit usage for Google Earth Professional and Professional Advanced plans. If the Google Earth plans have not been utilized, your account may be transitioned to the Standard plan to ensure our program resources are directed where they are most needed.
4.2 Recipients must report their impact metrics to Google in this Google Form at the end of their 12 month credit cycle. The report should include evidence of how the Google Earth credits helped your organization achieve progress on one or more of the following:
4.2.1 Climate mitigation
4.2.2 Adaptation
4.2.3 Protection
4.2.4 Public health
4.3 If recipients publish research publications based on work done using Google Earth credits, they must provide attribution with the following language: "[This work / This study / etc.] was supported by Google under the Google Earth Noncommercial Credits Program", in accordance with Google Earth's brand guidelines.
4.3.1 Recipients consent to be contacted by the Google Earth team to conduct a remote interview-type discussion about their use case and impact. Participation is voluntary and recipients may opt out at any time.
5. General Provisions
5.1 Recipients who have activated a Cloud Billing Account to obtain Google Maps Platform Services, even if your use of the Services is free or unpaid, must comply with the Google Maps Platform Terms of Service and the Pre-General Availability (GA) Terms for any Experimental features in Google Earth.
