Updates

Picasa is retiring (February 12, 2016)

On February 12, 2016 we announced that Picasa Web Albums and the Picasa desktop application would be retired. As part of that announcement, there were also changes to the Picasa Web Albums Data API. Specifically, the API would no longer support the following functionality:

  • Flash support
  • Community search
  • Mutation operations other than uploads
  • All support for tags, comments, contacts, and featured photos

These changes in functionality will be covered by version 3 and subsequent versions of the API.

These changes also impact users of previous versions of the API. In the interest of backward compatibility, we will return valid but empty results instead of failing for deprecated read operations wherever possible. For example, requests for tags on a photo will return empty results instead of failing. However, requests for unsupported mutation operations will fail.
