Roads API Usage and Billing

  • The Roads API uses a pay-as-you-go model and offers services for route traveled, nearest roads, and speed limits, each with its own pricing based on usage volume.

  • You must enable billing and include an API key or OAuth token with all API requests to use the Roads API.

  • Usage is subject to limits including 30,000 requests per minute, a maximum of 100 points per request, and terms of use restrictions outlined in Google Maps Platform policies.

  • Manage costs by setting daily quota limits for the Roads API through the Google Cloud console to avoid service disruptions due to exceeding usage limits.

  • A $200 USD Google Maps Platform credit is available monthly until February 28, 2025, for eligible SKUs and will be replaced by free usage thresholds afterward.

Roads API requests generate different SKUs depending on the type of request: nearest roads, route traveled with snap to roads, or speed limits.

  2. Select the API for which you want to modify the quota.
  3. Identify the quota value that you want to change, and select it using the checkbox.

View quota increase requests

To view all quota increase requests, including past and pending requests:

  1. In the Cloud console, navigate to Google Maps Platform > Quotas.
  2. Select the API for which you want to view the quota increase request.
  3. Click Increase Requests.
