Biography

Robert is a writer-turned-designer who knows that “falling in love with the problem” is key to unlocking creativity and designing great products. Since 1991, he has helped startups and established companies alike to get their UX practices off the ground and discover new business opportunities through design thinking.

Robert's varied career includes times on in-house teams and as a UX consultant. He has done award-winning work with FedEx, supported R&D at Sony, and held an executive role as Chief Experience Officer leading teams in Canada and the UK. He's currently VP of User Experience at Boltmade where he designs web and mobile products for a range of clients in the consumer and enterprise markets.

In Waterloo Region, Robert is recognized as a community builder. He founded uxWaterloo in 2007 and continues today as co-champion of this active monthly meetup with 500 members. He is co-founder of Fluxible, a UX conference now in its fifth year and billed as Canada's UX Festival. He mentors local startups, has contributed to three books on user experience, and speaks at events internationally — which supports his ongoing quest to find the world's best sushi.
