AI-generated Key Takeaways
-
This MODIS/MCD43A4_NDWI dataset is deprecated and has been replaced by a newer version.
-
The dataset provides the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), which indicates changes in liquid water content in vegetation.
-
NDWI values range from -1.0 to 1.0 and are derived from near-infrared and infrared bands.
-
This dataset covers a global extent with a 16-day temporal resolution from 2000-02-18 to 2017-03-14.
-
The data is freely available for research, education, and non-profit use through Google Earth Engine.

Description
The Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) is sensitive to changes in liquid water content of vegetation canopies. It is derived from the Near-IR band and a second IR band, ≈1.24μm when available and the nearest available IR band otherwise. It ranges in value from -1.0 to 1.0. See Gao (1996) for details. This product is generated from the MODIS/MCD43A4 surface reflectance composites.
