Optimizing a USB-C accessory device for the Assistant does not require
integrating Google software into the device itself. Assistant functionality resides
within the Assistant app on the user's mobile device. As long as you create a
device that is compatible with the
USB-C device specifications,
your device will be compatible with the Assistant optimization in the Assistant
app.
You may use this guide to freely build and test the Assistant optimization for
your USB-C device. However, to enable an optimized device for users, you must
make the necessary business arrangements with Google, comply with device
requirements, register your device information, and submit your device for
certification. Follow these steps:
Sign a business agreement.
You must sign a legal agreement with Google to launch a device with
Assistant integration or optimization. Reach out to your Google business
contact for more details on this agreement. If you don't have a Google
business contact, you can send an email to
bisto-usb-c@google.com.
Once the necessary business agreements are in place, you will be given
access to additional documentation that describes the
certification and production process.
Provide basic device information.
Google uses your basic device information to customize the user experience
for setting up the Assistant for your device.
To provide this information, reach out to your Google contact.
Certify your device.
Every Assistant device must be
certified
to validate performance and functionality.
After you complete these requirements, Google will turn on the Assistant
optimizations for all production users.
