This page provides a guide for Playable creators to use the Playables Developer Portal to manage Playable releases.
Prerequisites
- An up-to-date web browser, such as Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
- You must have channel manager permission on a YouTube channel that has been onboarded to YouTube Playables.
Access the Playables Developer Portal
- Sign in to YouTube using an account associated with your YouTube Channel.
- Channel manager permissions are required for portal access and modifications.
- To grant access to additional user accounts, the channel manager must assign
manager permissions using YouTube Studio.
- To do this, go to YouTube Studio, navigate to Settings → Permissions, and invite users with the appropriate access level which must be either Editor or Manager.
Once you have access to the correct channel, you can access the Playables Developer Portal. A list of Playables associated with your channel will be displayed on the home page.
Create and submit a Playable release
This section covers how to create and submit a release.
Create a new Playable
To create a new Playable, reach out using the contact information on the support contact page. At this time, this is a manual step. This step is not necessary for subsequent releases.
Edit a Playable draft
First, select the corresponding Playable from the displayed list.
You will need to:
- Provide the necessary metadata details, including title, genre, description, publisher, and developer information.
- Upload the Playable bundle assets in ZIP format while adhering to specified requirements.
- Upload thumbnails according to the design requirements.
- Configure monetization settings, including interstitial and rewarded ads.
- Initially, these settings won't change the end-user ads experience for now, but we'll eventually check these settings when handling ads requests from your Playable. They will help us gauge developer interest in these ad formats. In the future, creators will also need to implement the Playables SDK ads-related features in conjunction with the monetization settings.
You may Save your Playable draft and come back to edit it at any time.
Create a Playables release
Once all details are complete, click Create release. The release status will transition to Release Creation in Progress.
The release creation process may take several minutes.
Testing and submitting for certification
Once your Playable release has been successfully created on YouTube, a new tab on the left navigation bar will appear titled Verify and test. This tab will walk you through the various steps required to verify functionality of your Playable and verify it works properly on YouTube.
There is both a YouTube Dev Link as well as a Test Suite Link provided for use in testing. You should test on YouTube desktop web, YouTube mobile web, YouTube for Android, and YouTube for iOS. Copy the YouTube Dev Link to an email, note, text, or other location and open on a mobile device to test on iOS and Android.
After completing your internal testing and confirming the Playable release's readiness for certification, click the "Submit for Certification" button on the page to initiate a review on your Playable.
While your Playable is being reviewed, you won't be able to submit another release for certification. When this happens, please reach out to the Playables Ops team to reject the current staging release to allow for you to submit a new release for certification.
