Google Summer of Code Brand Guidelines

  1. Purpose of the Brand Guidelines
We love that folks from all over the world participate in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) and share their experiences! To keep things clear and avoid confusion about official connections to the program, we've put together some guidelines for talking about GSoC.
"Summer of Code," "GSoC," and the GSoC logo (collectively, "GSoC Trademarks") are trademarks of Google, and any use of the GSoC Trademarks other than those permitted in these guidelines must be approved in advance.

  2. Acceptable Uses
You may use the "Google Summer of Code," "Summer of Code," and "GSoC" names to refer to our program without prior written permission. Examples of these approved references include the following:

    • To refer to participation in the GSoC program
    • To refer to a partnership with the GSoC program
    • To accurately identify that your design or implementation is based on a project that was created during the GSoC program
    • To refer to an event that is tied to the GSoC program
  3. Usage Guidelines

    • The GSoC Trademarks may not be used or registered in a manner that would cause confusion as to Google's affiliation or endorsement.
    • Don't use the GSoC Trademarks as part of an unrelated commercial endeavor or as part of your company name, product name, domain name, or social media profile without permission.
    • Other than as permitted by these guidelines, the GSoC Trademarks shouldn't be combined with other trademarks, terms, or source identifiers.
    • Don't remove, distort or alter any element of the GSoC Trademarks without permission.
    • User groups, social media accounts, community websites, or other community-organized properties or organizations should follow the naming convention "[XYZ] for GSoC" or "[XYZ] for GSoC Contributors".
    • If you're organizing a related conference or event, you can use the "Google Summer of Code," "Summer of Code," and "GSoC" names to refer to the topic of the event, though we ask that you seek permission before using them as part of the official name of the event. If your event is unrelated to GSoC or to Google, we ask that you don't use the term "Summer of Code" without permission and attribution.
      • Example attribution statement: "Summer of Code" is a trademark of Google and [event name] is not affiliated with Google or Google's Summer of Code.
    • Use of the GSoC logo for commercial purposes is prohibited unless you have our express permission. This includes use of the logo to advertise tutoring courses, boot camps, test preparation, or any activity that charges money in exchange for a service. However, you may use the GSoC logo without permission for non-commercial purposes, such as for an open source project that participates in the GSoC program, a presentation, paper or newsletter about participation in the program, or on your project's site highlighting participation as a mentoring org in GSoC.
    • Don't use the Google logo without permission. More information on the usage guidelines for the Google brand are here: https://about.google/brand-resource-center/guidance/
