When conducting any form of clinical research, such as a trial or study, we recommend your participants use their personal Google Account to share their Google health data. In scenarios where using a user's personal Google Account isn't possible, we're offering a service to create Google Accounts for you, called "demo accounts".
Demo accounts are a type of Google Account that operate a little differently than the standard Google Account. These accounts are available for clinical research, who need help onboarding Google Health users participating in their device-led programs.
When using the demo accounts, you agree to the following guidelines:
You agree to create a unique client ID for each research study.
You agree to create a unique demo account request for each research study. We don't limit the number of accounts created for each program, but demo accounts shouldn't be repurposed across multiple programs.
You agree to follow the defined minimum age requirements. In North America, the minimum age is 13 years old. If you're using the demo accounts in another country, see age requirements.
You agree to use these accounts with the Google Health API, and have each user consent to share their data using the Google Health API authorization flow. Using the Google Health API does require a little technical knowledge. Therefore, you may need to have technical resources to assist with the integration. Contact the Google Health API Support team for guidance with using the Google Health API.
A standard naming convention,
user[#].[ticket#]@gmail.com, is being used to prevent duplicate email addresses from being created.The demo accounts will use the @gmail.com domain. All accounts will contain the same first name, last name, gender, birthday, country, height, weight, units, timezone, region code, and language. At a minimum, the user should change the height, weight, gender, and birthday year once they log into their account. This will help the Google Health algorithms provide accurate results. The user is encouraged to change their password once they receive their account information. Instructions for changing the password can be found in the article Change or reset your password. If the user forgets their password, the standard process for resetting the password doesn't work. Instead, contact the Google Health API Support team requesting a new password.
These accounts will expire after 6 months. However, the Google Health API Support team will extend the accounts in 6 month increments for the lifetime of your study + 1 month. The additional month should provide ample time to download the user's data prior to the accounts expiring.
All demo account requests require the following documentation to be approved:
- Submit a completed research application and your research study must follow the guidelines defined by the Google Health API User Data and Health Research Policy.
- For research studies, you should have either an Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval or waiver. A copy of your IRB approval letter or waiver must be submitted with the research application. The approval letter or waiver and supporting documentation should state the study's start and end dates.
