Black Women in Tech
Black Women in Tech is a storytelling campaign by Women Techmakers aimed at building a future where Black women are championed in tech and beyond through community, resources, and advocacy.
This campaign supports increasing the representation of Black women and fostering an inclusive workplace culture where we all belong.
We know what it can start to look like, but it takes everyone every day and at every step to achieve sustainable equity in the workplace we create.
International Women’s Day
Since 2013, Women Techmakers Ambassadors around the world have hosted over 1,000 events across 75+ countries in honor of International Women’s Day (IWD). Events range from large summits to intimate gatherings, celebrating the incredible accomplishments of women in technology and also acting as a call to action for gender equity worldwide.
International Women’s Day is marked on March 8th every year and is an important moment to recognize how women have influenced the tech industry and beyond. In different regions, the focus of celebrations ranges from general respect and appreciation for women to a celebration of women’s economic, political, and social achievements. IWD events run from March through April every year. Find an IWD event near you.
Google I/O
Every year, Women Techmakers has increased the participation of women at Google’s annual conference for developers and technologists, Google I/O.
Women can network at our annual Women Techmakers dinner the night before I/O, and stay connected through our private Slack community. Become a member to be among the first to hear about how to join us for Google I/O and future developer events.
Hackathon
In partnership with Jigsaw, we launched a hackathon and online training series in 2020 focused on improving women’s online safety. We invited social entrepreneurs, developers, and technologists to apply Google’s technology solutions with the aim to disrupt gender violence.
In 2021, over 2,000 women and allies representing over 50 countries participated in the 13 hackathons and trainings our community hosted. During the hackathons, women worked together on innovative solutions to the challenges of women's online safety, and over 100 solutions were created.
