Download App Catalog Export

You can use the Play Console for app stores to enable and download the app catalog export. A prerequisite for this is to be enrolled in the Play Catalog Access program. This export provides a daily snapshot of apps on Google Play that are eligible and have opted to be included in your third-party app store catalog.

Enable App Catalog Export

To start receiving the App Catalog Export, you need to enroll from the Play Console for app stores:

  1. Open Play Console for app stores
  2. Go to the Advanced Settings page
  3. Find the Catalog Access section
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to enroll in Catalog Access

Once enrolled, Google Play will start generating the export in your Google Cloud storage bucket.

Accessing the export in Google Cloud Storage

App catalog exports are made available in your private Google Cloud Storage bucket associated with your App Store account. A new export is provided at least daily.

You can access exports using Google Cloud Storage on your browser or programmatically using gsutil. You can also use other tools to programmatically access your Cloud Storage bucket.

Find your Google Cloud Storage URI

You can copy your Google Cloud Storage URI by clicking the Copy Google Cloud URI button on the Catalog Access page in Advanced Settings. The button is available once the account is enrolled into Catalog Access.

Your Cloud Storage URI typically starts with pubsite_prod_.

Download exports using a command line tool

  1. Install the gsutil tool
    • Make sure that you authenticate your account using an account with access to Play Console
    • During the setup process, if you're using gsutil for the first time and don't have any other projects configured in Google Cloud Storage, you can type your app store's name when you're prompted for a project ID
  2. Find your Google Cloud Storage bucket ID
  3. Use the gsutil cp command to download exports

File format and structure

The app catalog export files are stored in the following structure:

gs://[your_bucket_id]/app_catalog_export_us/[your_app_store_package_name]/YYYY-MM-DD/[version_id]/data-[shard_number]-of-[total_shards]
  • YYYY-MM-DD: The date of the app catalog export
  • [version_id]: A unique identifier for a daily export. In case multiple exports are available for a given day, the highest version_id would contain the latest data.
  • data-[shard_number]-of-[total_shards]: The export is shared. You must download all shards for a specific version_id to get the complete catalog for that day.

The files contain serialized protocol buffer messages. Each shard contains a CatalogAppViews message, which in turn contains multiple CatalogAppView records. The data schema definition is described in the following section.

Using the delivery token

This token must be used when integrating with the Google Play Inline Install. The token is unique per Play app and per third-party app store combination and has a limited validity period of 7 days.
