Dissemination schedule

WeatherNext forecasts are generated operational runs published across Google Cloud Storage (Zarr), Google Earth Engine, and Google BigQuery.

All times are in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) and represent target dissemination estimates (with a typical ±15 minute variance). Occasionally, delivery times may vary by ±60 minutes or more due to upstream satellite or reanalysis ingest latency. If data delivery exceeds +60 minutes past the estimated window, contact us at weathernext@google.com.

WeatherNext 3

WeatherNext 3 is initialized every hour (00:00, 01:00, 02:00, ..., 23:00 UTC) using live geostationary satellite mosaics and ECMWF analysis.

  • Google Cloud Storage (Full Ensemble): Receives the full 64-member ensemble across all surface grids, station points, and 13 atmospheric pressure levels in gs://weathernext3_spatial/weathernext_3_0_0/zarr/ first.
  • Google Cloud Storage (Spatial Statistics): Receives precomputed summary statistics (_mean, _p10, _p25, _p50, _p75, _p90) for all 0.1° and 0.05° surface variables in gs://weathernext3_statistics_spatial/weathernext_3_0_0_statistics/zarr/.
  • BigQuery & Earth Engine: Ingest precomputed surface ensemble statistics across the 0.1° gridded (weathernext_3_0_0_0p1deg) and 0.05° station (weathernext_3_0_0_0p05deg) products from the GCS statistics Zarr store shortly after dataset materialization.

The following table outlines target dissemination times for the four main 6-hourly forecast cycles (00:00, 06:00, 12:00, 18:00 UTC), which provide the full 15-day (360-hour) forecast horizon:

Forecast Run (Init Time UTC) Forecast Horizon GCS Full Ensemble / Stats Zarr BigQuery & Earth Engine
00:00 UTC 15 days (360 hours) 07:45 UTC 08:10 UTC
06:00 UTC 15 days (360 hours) 13:45 UTC 14:10 UTC
12:00 UTC 15 days (360 hours) 19:45 UTC 20:10 UTC
18:00 UTC 15 days (360 hours) 01:45 UTC (next day) 02:10 UTC (next day)

Note: Interim 1-hour inits (01:00–05:00, 07:00–11:00, 13:00–17:00, 19:00–23:00 UTC) deliver forecasts for surface and station variables, targeting delivery at <init-time> + 7 hours and 10 minutes for GCS and <init-time> + 7 hours and 25 minutes for BigQuery & Earth Engine.

WeatherNext 2

WeatherNext 2 runs 4 times daily (00, 06, 12, 18 UTC) across all 64 ensemble members and the ensemble mean:

00:00 UTC 06:50 UTC 07:30 UTC 07:30 UTC
06:00 UTC 12:50 UTC 13:30 UTC 13:30 UTC
12:00 UTC 18:50 UTC 19:30 UTC 19:30 UTC
18:00 UTC 00:50 UTC (next day) 01:30 UTC (next day) 01:30 UTC (next day)
