Model deprecation

Note: Effective July 29, 2026, the WeatherNext Gen and WeatherNext Graph datasets on Earth Engine and BigQuery are deprecated.

Migration Path: All users should transition to WeatherNext 3 datasets, which offer higher resolution, hourly initialization, and expanded variable coverage. WeatherNext 2 datasets also remain available.

  • Getting Started: See the Quick start guide to explore all available access methods for WeatherNext 3 forecast data, including BigQuery, Earth Engine, and Google Cloud Storage.
  • Deterministic Forecasts: For users that prefer working with deterministic forecasts over probabilistic forecasts, real-time and historical (backfill of 2022-present) ensemble mean datasets are available on Earth Engine, BigQuery, and Google Cloud Storage. These were first launched on May 11, 2026 for WeatherNext 2 Mean, and are also available for WeatherNext 3.
  • Access Permissions: Users on the allowlist for WeatherNext Graph and WeatherNext Gen automatically have access to all available datasets, including WeatherNext 3, WeatherNext 2, and WeatherNext 2 Mean.

Performance Note: Following ECMWF's IFS Cycle 50r1 update on May 12, 2026, WeatherNext 2 users may experience some accuracy regression. WeatherNext 3 was trained with post-IFS-update data and is not affected by this change. We recommend migrating to WeatherNext 3 for the best forecast quality.
