Question Configuration Guide

Open Ended

Open Ended questions are a great way to get more detailed, qualitative responses from a respondent. You can create an open ende question by setting the type value to openEnded.

This question type should not be used to ask the respondents two or more questions at a time. Please limit your question to only one survey question.

Open Ended text questions require extra time and effort from respondents, so only support up to two open-ended text questions per survey. Keep in mind that if you respondent is on a mobile device, it can be challenging to enter a lot of text.

...minimal configuration

Open Ended questions are easy to configure; you only need to supply the question. Notice that the default placeholder text is "enter your answer".

  {

  "question": "Why is the answer 42?",
  "type": "openEnded"

...changing the placeholder text

You can change the default placeholder text using the openTextPlaceholder value.

If the unit of the answer is not stated in the question—for instance: “How long does it take for you to receive a delivery you made online?” vs. “How many days does it take for you to receive a delivery you made online?”—we suggest that you have placeholder text that says, for example "30 mins / 2 days / 3 weeks”

  // should enter.

  "openTextPlaceholder" : "Your guess is as good as ours."

  }
