Question Configuration Guide

Multiple Answer

Multiple answer questions are multiple choice style questions that allow the respondent to select more than one answer if desired. Up to seven options can be shown at once, including the automatic “None of the above.”

Avoid using Multiple Answer question types if you have conflicting or mutually exclusive answer choices. For instance, having "Yes" and "No" as reponses for a Multiple Answer question would not make sense. Instead, you would want to use the the Single Answer type question. Also avoid explicity adding an opt-out answer, such as “None of the above”, as this answer choice is automatically included.

For this question type, you can choose to have answers presented in a randomized or fixed order.

This question type can also be used to screen respondents.

...minimal configuration

Here's the minimum you need to create a multiple answer type question. By default, answers are completely randomized, but you can change this by setting the answerOrder value to randomlyReversed or sorted.

The randomlyReversed setting will preserve the sequence of the answers, but each time the survey is viewed by a respondent, there is a 50% chance that the entire sequence will be presented in reveresed order. In other words, answers A, B, C, D, E will be presented to the respondent as either A, B, C, D, E or E, D, C, B, A.

A setting of sorted will preserve the order exactly as specified. Also note that by default, there is a "None of the above" answer, which deselects any answers that have been selected.

...with open ended text box

Multiple Answer questions can have up to 7 answers, including a default "None of the above" answer that deselects any other answers that the user might have already selected. You can replace the "None of the Above" option with a text box that reads "Other (Please specify)." To do this, set the hasOther option to true.
