Overview

This document provides an overview of Google's effort to make the web faster.

What would be possible if browsing the web was as fast as turning the pages of a magazine? We invite you to join us in exploring and innovating across the entire spectrum of performance — from Internet protocols to the browser to website development. Together, let's make the web faster!

PageSpeed

PageSpeed is an open-source project started at Google to help developers optimize their web pages by applying web performance best practices. PageSpeed started as an open-source browser extension, and is now deployed in third-party products such as Webpagetest.org, Show Slow and Google Webmaster Tools

Instant Pages

Prerendering is an experimental feature in Chrome (versions 13 and up) that can take hints from a site’s author to speed up the browsing experience of users. A site author includes an element in HTML that instructs Chrome to fetch and render an additional page in advance of the user actually clicking on it. As a web developer, you may be interested in triggering prerendering or, much more likely, in detecting when your site is being prerendered.

Public DNS

Google Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.
