Error Code List

This document contains a list of error codes returned by the Content API for Shopping, with explanations for what causes each error and how you can fix the error.

Error Table

Error Message Cause of Error Solution
auth/frontend/adwords Your AdWords advertisements are not running. You need to activate your AdWords account.
auth/frontend/age_policy The specified customer is under 18.  
auth/frontend/checkout Google Checkout not enabled. Enable Google Checkout.
auth/frontend/missing_homepage You haven't specified your website's URL on the settings page before uploading items. Make sure to set up your Merchant account.
auth/frontend/not_admin The authenticated user does not have admin permissions for the given customer id.  
auth/frontend/not_claimed You didn't verify and claim your website's URL. Make sure to claim your website's URL.
auth/frontend/terms_of_service You didn't sign the Merchant Center's terms of service. When you set up your account, make sure you agree to the terms of service.
auth/frontend/whitelisted Your Merchant Center account is not yet enabled for API use with the feed you specified. For certain API feeds, your account needs to be pre-approved in order to send requests to the Content API for Shopping. Please contact us for approval.
quota/too_many_feeds You have too many data feeds registered. You have exceeded your data feeds quota. If you would like to know more, please contact us or request an increase to your quota.
quota/too_many_items You have too many items registered. You have exceeded your items quota. If you would like to know more, please contact us or request an increase to your quota.
quota/too_many_requests You executed too many requests. You have exceeded your request quota. If you would like to know more, please contact us .
quota/too_many_subaccounts You have too many subaccounts registered. You have exceeded your subaccount quota. If you would like to know more, please contact us.
validation/feed Multiple reasons why a data feed upload failed. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/internal Internal error during validation. Please retry inserting the item. If the problem persists, please report this issue to us together with the request you're trying to execute.
validation/invalid_account Cannot access items of a multi-client account. Please use a subaccount.  
validation/invalid_attribute Error code covering various reasons why the attribute is invalid. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/invalid_attribute/duplicate The item contains two identical attributes (with identical values). Remove one of the identical items.
validation/invalid_attribute/reserved The attribute you're trying to insert uses a name reserved by Content API for Shopping. Please use the attribute defined in Product Item Requirements for your element or pick a different name for your custom attribute.
validation/invalid_attribute/too_many The attribute has too many values. See the Product Item Requirements for the number of instances of each element that are accepted.
validation/invalid_attribute/unknown The attribute is not supported. See the Product Item Requirements for a list of supported attributes.
validation/invalid_character There is a problem with the character encoding of this attribute. Make all characters in your item match the XML encoding.
validation/invalid_destination Specified destination is not supported. See the Destinations section for more information.
validation/invalid_format The format of the attribute value is not valid (e.g. dates, numbers). See the Product Item Requirements for the correct format.
validation/invalid_item Generic error code for an invalid item. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/invalid_user The specified user is already associated with a Merchant Center account.  
validation/invalid_user/already_in_use The specified user account is associated with a customer other than the customer specified.  
validation/invalid_value Generic error code for an invalid value of an attribute. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/invalid_value/missing You didn't specify a value for an attribute. Make sure you include a value for all attributes. See the <location> element of the response for the attribute name with a missing value.
validation/invalid_value/too_high The numeric value is too high. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/invalid_value/too_long The text value is too long. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/invalid_value/too_low The numeric value is too low. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/invalid_value/unknown The value you specified for this attribute is not in the list of the supported values. See the Products Feed Specification to find out which values are supported.
validation/missing_required A required attribute is missing. See the Summary of Attribute Requirements.
validation/other Generic validation error. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/policy One of the policies has been violated. Check the content of the <internalReason> element for more information about the reason. Make sure you satisfy the Product Item Requirements.
validation/warning We found this attribute problematic for some reason and recommend checking it. See the warnings sections for more information.
