My Biography

Bushra recently finished her PhD at the Centre for Doctoral Training in Cyber Security, University of Oxford. Prior, she received an MSc in Network and Information Assurance from Santa Clara University, USA. Her previous work experience includes lecturer at King Saud University, Cisco Systems, and Apple. Her research interests involve classification and detection of malware and improving the security in Security Operation Centres (SOCs) using Machine Learning, publishing many papers in top conferences and journals. She received numerous awards such as the Computer Antivirus Research Organisation (CARO) award, Google Anita Borg scholarship in 2016, Facebook Grace Hopper Travel Scholarship in 2015, Black Hat USA 2015 Student Scholarship 2015, and Anne McLaren Award of Excellence from Kellogg College in 2017. She is passionate about volunteering, co-founding an initiative inspireHer with support from Google to encourage girls to code at an early age. She was also the president of Oxford Women in Computer Science Society (OxWoCS), a Women Techmakers Ambassador, and Oxford GDG co-organiser. She also organizes workshops at the Annual Hay Festival in the United Kingdom to teach children to code using robotics. When she is not conquering the world, she spends time being a mother to her wonderful boy Aziz.
