Physical Web Beacons

Follow these simple steps to deploy your beacon with a Physical Web URL.

  1. Select the URL for your beacon. Use standard HTML <head> elements in your webpage to provide mobile devices the information necessary to create a proper Physical Web notification. The following example shows the most basic markup:

    <head>
        <meta charset="UTF-8">
        <meta name="description" content="All you wanted to know about the Physical Web">
        <link rel="shortcut icon" href="icon.png">
        <title>All about the Physical Web</title>
    </head>

    The URL also needs to be HTTPS and should be reduced with a URL shortener.

  2. Configure your beacon. Use the Nordic nRF app (Android, iOS) to configure the Physical Web URL for your beacon. Press the button on your beacon to put it into configuration mode.

  3. Place your beacon. If you can, place the beacon at a higher location in the room; there will be less interference. Also, avoid placing it next to metal, which blocks the signal. Use the Physical Web stickers on posters at your event.

Hooray! Your beacon is now broadcasting your URL and users can discover it on their mobile devices.
