The list below defines some of the key terms you should know when developing smart home Actions.

Key Terms:

• Google smart home: A platform that lets you create a smart home Action to extend the functionality of the Google Assistant to control connected devices. See Google smart home overview.
• Home Graph: A database that stores and provides contextual data about the home and its devices. See Home Graph.
• Device types: Let the Google Assistant know what grammar should be used with your device. See device types and traits.
• Device traits: Device traits define the capabilities of a device type. See device types and traits.
• Smart home intent: Simple messaging objects that describe how to perform a smart home Action such as turn on a light or cast audio to a speaker. See smart home intents.
• Fulfillment : A service that handles a smart home intent and carries out the corresponding Action. See fulfillment and authentication.
• Authentication: Links your users' Google accounts with user accounts in your authentication system. See fulfillment and authentication.
