Using Apps Script in App Maker

App Maker is a tool that allows you to quickly assemble business web apps using Google services and infrastructure. With Google App Maker, you can:

  • Model - Create and manage data models that allow your app to connect to databases or a user's Google data.
  • View - Design an app's user interface without coding HTML and CSS by hand.
  • Control - Control your app's behavior and connect to Google services using Apps Script.

Apps created with App Maker are very similar to web apps created with Apps Script, in that they are web-hosted applications that can connect to Google services. App Maker makes the process of building and maintaining these types of applications easier.

Apps Script for App Maker Users

App Maker uses Apps Script as its underlying platform. If you're developing apps using App Maker, you'll need some knowledge of Apps Script and its services. However, you don't have to become an Apps Script expert in order to use App Maker — many Apps Script concepts won't even be relevant. For example, you should know how to use Apps Script to connect to services like Drive and Calendar, but you don't need to know how to build an Add-on. In most cases, you can just treat Apps Script as a form of JavaScript with additional support for connecting to Google services on the server side.
