Correct an existing feed


You may already have an existing feed of products, but the content of that feed may not match the format expected by Google. Here, this section discusses your options for using that existing feed with your Merchant Center account.

Manual steps

  1. See the Supported file formats article to understand what formats Google expects.
  2. If your existing feed does not match one of the formats expected by Google, convert it to one that does.

    • If elements of your existing feed do not match the Product Feed Specification, you can use feed rules to perform certain transformations on your feed instead of performing these transformations yourself for every new version of the feed.

    • If your existing feed contains information that is not needed by Merchant Center, you may consider removing those parts of your feed before uploading.

    • If your existing feed is missing information that is needed by Merchant Center, you will need to add that information to your feed.

  3. Register your feed with your Merchant Center account.

  4. Upload your feed to the Merchant Center.

Here are the most important product data issues you may see while correcting your feed:

  • Item requires a GTIN
  • Incorrect product identifiers.

    See the article on unique product identifiers to determine which, if any, of these attributes you need to provide as well as help on locating the appropriate values for these attributes.

  • Wait up to 3 days for image crawl to complete.

    This issue just lets you know that Google has not yet attempted to crawl the image you've provided for your product and does not require action on your part.

  • Homepage not claimed.

  • URL does not match homepage

  • Landing page cannot be crawled

  • Missing or invalid price and availability.

    The landing page URL for your product must contain the website you've claimed with your Merchant Center account. In addition, Google's crawler must be able to access your landing page, and the information about your product on that landing page must match the information you provide in your feed.

  • Missing images

  • Invalid images

  • Generic images

  • Images too small

  • Items preemptively disapproved due to data quality violation (watermarks or promotional text)
